There's still 5 minutes left in the first period and Calgary just scored their 3rd goal against the Avalanche. Wow!

k, finally had time for some server setup.
RAID-1 is installed on two 160 gig drives, 159 gigs for data, 1 gig for swap also in RAID (faster swap performance).
It's actually rather easy to setup RAID under Linux...once you get the correct procedure. It's fast and efficient.
Just setting up other services and so forth...yada yada!

I thought about this topic yesterday (Rememberance Day) while driving to work. Why is Canada needed in Afghanistan? Why do countries with certain idealogues enter others?
It comes down to control. People like to control other people and recently it's gotten easier. The ease is due to improvements in weapons technology. For instance, way back when swords were in fashion a large army was required to control a population (remember, we're talking about oppressed populations here). A sword really didn't do as much damage so the bearer could be overpowered relatively easily.
The introduction of the gun completely changed everything. People could now be harmed from a much greater distance and the guns were also terribly expensive. Fewer people were now needed to control the large population as every strike virtually guaranteed death and a much larger number of people would be required in order to overpower a single oppressor.
The same principle applies today. There are oppressive rich folk who can afford the guns in 3rd world nations and they control a very large populace. So as technology has advanced it's become increasingly easy for a very small idealogical group to take over a poor group that can't afford to fight back.
That's where rich nations come in. Rich nations can afford guns and even the poorest of their citizens are capable of obtaining such weapons (thus avoiding any chance of oppression in those countries). Rich nations thus can either provide weapons or help those in other countries that are in need.
Consider that all present and former superpowers gave not food but weapons to other countries. It is of course a way of control and any attempt to control always backfires (Vietnam, Iran/Iraq, Central America).
The problem with giving weapons to an oppressed group is that if their idealogy differs even slightly then they'll use those weapons to fight you. The solution is education of the masses and not forcing ones own idealogy upon them.

My main network connection kept dropping often and I've been tracing it for a bit. With the help of Greg I believe it's been narrowed down to a faulty switch.
Guess it's time for a new Netgear gigabit switch.

So Kyle and Eric were over for yet another movie night and we watched Star Wars Episode III, Formula 51, and Family Guy.
Without a doubt the intro to Sunday's Family Guy was by far the best we've ever seen.

I did a massive overhaul last night to the server setup in prep for unicorn (3Ghz machine).
Web directories were moved around and so forth. Please make note of that and get prepared for more utilities.

New web server has been purchased and should be here in the next couple of weeks. Following the purchase the server will be setup and moved into colocation in Toronto.
Following colocation I will move all initial web services to the new machine (unicorn).
One by one websites shall be moved until they all reside on unicorn. Dragon shall then also be moved to Toronto after an upgrade visit home for a new set of hard drives and possibly a processor upgrade.
I guess I can sleep now...well, let me finish off this can of coke (3/4ths left in there).

Am I the only person who can drink a full can of coke and then go to bed without being affected by the caffine?

Last night I spent a significant amount of time working out the physics of a new throw that I'm working on. The uses I've found for it are very limited right now but something in my mind tells me that there's a use for it as a very common throw.
There's a number of ways the disc can be made to fly in the pattern that I envision but like a ball once you apply the initial force upon it it's it will not change the way it flies.
For that reason the initial vectors that are added need to be particularly forceful and precise. I will talk more about it later, I have to go and try to actually throw it as aforementioned, tonight.
